First Day

Monday was the first day on the job. The mower worked well as it has been in the shop in order to sharpen the blades. Stopped by Thirtieth Century in order to get this picture taken.

In other news, for anyone that thinks this concept is a foray into the absurd, they are mistaken :)

Mowing ones lawn with a reel mower is beneficial for the lawn. Instead of ripping the grass with a fan type mower, the reel mower blades simply clip the ends of the grass. Its sort of like getting a haircut. Another reason to switch over to reel mowing is the environmental impact of traditional gas powered mowing. In fact, 5% of air pollution is a result of gas powered lawn mowers (EPA). Biking to and from the job and using a push mower, I end up cutting out all the lawn care related carbon emissions.

Update

I am excited to announce that 30th Century Bicycle will be providing the bicycle related equipment support for Ciclismow! In other news, mowing will run between ~15$ for a small to ~$40 for larger lawns. Mulching and spring-cleanup related tasks will be billed on an hourly basis.

Still setting up business phone. However, E-mail ciclismow@hotmail.com to coordinate mowing for this season!

Mowing in Iowa City

Hey all! Well, the name may be tricky to pronounce if you are not into cycling :) However, let me tell you something about Ciclismow. My name is Finn and I am starting a lawn business that is human powered. It is powered by me with a little help from a bike and trailer that carries a reel mower/trimmer. It is an innovative, yet simple set-up that, in it's own way, will reduce carbon emissions and noise pollution. This is the only business of this kind in the Iowa City area. I will be specializing in residential lawns in Iowa City. Maybe Coralville and North Liberty, as long as it is not too far to ride :) More details to come. Bring on Spring!!
